Lead Drilling Engineer

About the Role

Our client is seeking a highly experienced Lead Drilling Engineer to spearhead drilling operations and strategy from their Newcastle upon Tyne office. This senior position involves the planning, execution, and supervision of drilling campaigns, ensuring safety, efficiency, and cost-effectiveness. You will lead a team of drilling engineers, provide technical guidance, and manage relationships with contractors and service providers. The role is pivotal in driving innovation and maintaining the highest operational standards within the Oil & Gas sector . Key Responsibilities

• Develop comprehensive drilling programs and associated risk assessments for complex wells.
• Supervise and manage drilling operations, both onshore and offshore, ensuring adherence to safety and environmental regulations.
• Lead and mentor a team of drilling engineers, fostering a culture of excellence and continuous improvement.
• Oversee well design, equipment selection, and cost management for drilling projects.
• Liaise with subsurface teams, contractors, and regulatory bodies to ensure project success.
• Conduct post-drilling analysis and implement lessons learned to optimize future operations.

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in Petroleum Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a related field.
• A minimum of 10 years of hands-on experience in drilling engineering, including supervisory roles.
• Proven track record in planning and executing complex drilling operations, including deepwater or high-pressure/high-temperature (HPHT) wells.
• Strong understanding of drilling hydraulics, well control, cementing, and directional drilling techniques.
• Experience with drilling simulation software and data analysis tools.
• Excellent leadership, communication, and project management skills are essential.
