About the Role
Our client seeks a seasoned Lead Drilling Engineer to spearhead drilling operations and strategy from their Newcastle upon Tyne office. This leadership role is integral to planning, executing, and supervising safe, efficient, and cost-effective drilling campaigns. You will be responsible for managing drilling programs, ensuring compliance with stringent safety regulations, and driving innovation in drilling technologies. This is a key position requiring a blend of technical expertise, project management skills, and the ability to lead and mentor a team of drilling engineers, contributing significantly to the company's operational success in challenging environments.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop and execute comprehensive drilling plans, including well design, rig selection, and equipment specification.
- Oversee day-to-day drilling operations, ensuring adherence to safety, environmental, and quality standards.
- Manage drilling budgets, track expenditures, and identify cost-saving opportunities.
- Conduct risk assessments and implement mitigation strategies for potential drilling hazards.
- Lead and mentor a team of drilling engineers, fostering a culture of safety and continuous improvement.
- Collaborate with geologists, reservoir engineers, and service providers to optimize drilling performance.
Requirements
- Proven track record as a Drilling Engineer with at least 10 years of experience in the Oil & Gas sector.
- Extensive knowledge of drilling fluids, cementing, well control, and directional drilling techniques.
- Experience with various rig types and drilling environments.
- Strong leadership, project management, and problem-solving skills.
- Proficiency in drilling software and data analysis tools.
- Bachelor's degree in Petroleum Engineering or a related engineering discipline.
