About the Role

Our client seeks a seasoned Lead Drilling Engineer to spearhead drilling operations and strategy from their Newcastle upon Tyne office. This leadership role is integral to planning, executing, and supervising safe, efficient, and cost-effective drilling campaigns. You will be responsible for managing drilling programs, ensuring compliance with stringent safety regulations, and driving innovation in drilling technologies. This is a key position requiring a blend of technical expertise, project management skills, and the ability to lead and mentor a team of drilling engineers, contributing significantly to the company's operational success in challenging environments.

Key Responsibilities

Develop and execute comprehensive drilling plans, including well design, rig selection, and equipment specification.
Oversee day-to-day drilling operations, ensuring adherence to safety, environmental, and quality standards.
Manage drilling budgets, track expenditures, and identify cost-saving opportunities.
Conduct risk assessments and implement mitigation strategies for potential drilling hazards.
Lead and mentor a team of drilling engineers, fostering a culture of safety and continuous improvement.
Collaborate with geologists, reservoir engineers, and service providers to optimize drilling performance.

Requirements

Proven track record as a Drilling Engineer with at least 10 years of experience in the Oil & Gas sector.
Extensive knowledge of drilling fluids, cementing, well control, and directional drilling techniques.
Experience with various rig types and drilling environments.
Strong leadership, project management, and problem-solving skills.
Proficiency in drilling software and data analysis tools.
Bachelor's degree in Petroleum Engineering or a related engineering discipline.
