About the Role
Our client seeks a highly skilled and motivated Lead Drilling Engineer to oversee drilling operations for their projects based out of Newcastle upon Tyne . This senior position requires extensive experience in planning, executing, and managing complex drilling campaigns, ensuring safety, efficiency, and cost-effectiveness. You will lead a team of drilling engineers, providing technical guidance and mentorship while liaising with various internal and external stakeholders, including service providers and regulatory bodies. This is a critical role that demands strong leadership, a deep understanding of drilling technologies, and a commitment to operational excellence in the demanding Oil & Gas environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop comprehensive drilling programs and well designs, considering geological and operational constraints.
- Supervise and manage drilling operations on-site and remotely, ensuring adherence to safety protocols and best practices.
- Optimize drilling parameters and procedures to enhance efficiency and reduce non-productive time (NPT).
- Conduct risk assessments and implement mitigation strategies for potential drilling hazards.
- Manage relationships with drilling contractors and service providers , ensuring high performance and compliance.
- Mentor and develop junior drilling engineering staff, fostering a culture of continuous improvement.
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in Petroleum Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a related discipline.
- A minimum of 10 years of progressive experience in drilling engineering within the upstream Oil & Gas sector.
- Proven track record in managing complex drilling projects, including deepwater or unconventional wells.
- In-depth knowledge of drilling fluids, cementation, well control, and directional drilling.
- Strong leadership, project management, and communication skills.
- Familiarity with relevant industry regulations and standards.
