About the Role

Our client is seeking a seasoned Lead Drilling Engineer to oversee and manage drilling operations for their projects in the Birmingham, West Midlands, UK . This pivotal role demands extensive experience in designing and executing complex drilling programs safely, efficiently, and cost-effectively within the Oil & Gas sector . You will lead a team of drilling engineers, coordinate with various service providers, and ensure adherence to stringent health, safety, and environmental standards. The successful candidate will be a strategic thinker, adept at problem-solving in dynamic field conditions, and committed to driving innovation in drilling techniques.

Key Responsibilities

• Develop and execute comprehensive drilling plans and well designs, ensuring safety and efficiency targets are met.
• Manage drilling operations on-site, including rig supervision, contractor coordination, and problem-solving during execution.
• Oversee the selection and procurement of drilling equipment and services, negotiating contracts with vendors.
• Conduct detailed risk assessments and develop mitigation strategies for potential drilling hazards.
• Monitor drilling performance metrics, analyze data, and implement improvements to optimize operations.
• Mentor and guide junior drilling engineers, providing technical support and professional development.

Requirements

• A minimum of 10 years of progressive experience in Drilling Engineering , with significant leadership responsibilities.
• Demonstrated expertise in well planning, directional drilling, managed pressure drilling (MPD), and completion design.
• Strong knowledge of health, safety, and environmental (HSE) regulations relevant to the Oil & Gas industry.
• Bachelor's degree in Petroleum Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a related discipline.
• Proficiency with drilling simulation software and project management tools.
• Excellent leadership, communication, and decision-making capabilities.
