Lead Drilling Engineer

About the Role

Our client is seeking a highly experienced Lead Drilling Engineer to spearhead drilling operations and strategy from their Coventry office. You will be responsible for the planning, execution, and optimization of drilling campaigns, ensuring safety, efficiency, and cost-effectiveness across all operations. This senior role requires a strong leader with deep technical expertise in well construction and a proven track record of managing complex drilling projects. You will play a critical role in shaping drilling policies, mentoring the drilling engineering team, and ensuring compliance with the highest industry standards for safety and environmental performance.

Key Responsibilities

• Develop and execute comprehensive drilling plans and programs for onshore and offshore wells.
• Oversee the selection of equipment, materials, and services required for drilling operations.
• Manage drilling budgets, control costs, and identify areas for efficiency improvements.
• Ensure rigorous adherence to all safety regulations, operational procedures, and environmental policies.
• Lead and mentor a team of drilling engineers, providing technical guidance and performance feedback.

Requirements

• Degree in Petroleum Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a related discipline.
• Extensive experience (8+ years) in drilling engineering , including significant project leadership roles.
• In-depth knowledge of well control principles, drilling fluid technology, and cementing operations.
• Experience with various drilling technologies and methodologies.
• Strong leadership, project management, and decision-making abilities.
