About the Role
Our client is seeking a highly skilled Lead Electrical Design Engineer with expertise in Grid Connections to join their team in Reading . This role is essential for ensuring the seamless integration of new energy projects, including renewable generation and battery storage, into the national grid. You will lead the electrical design process, manage a team of engineers, and ensure all designs meet stringent technical standards and regulatory requirements for the UK power network . The ideal candidate possesses extensive experience in high-voltage electrical systems and a thorough understanding of grid connection procedures and standards.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead the electrical design of grid connection substations and associated infrastructure up to 132kV.
- Develop detailed design drawings, specifications, and calculations for electrical equipment and systems.
- Manage a team of electrical design engineers, providing technical guidance and oversight.
- Ensure compliance with relevant industry standards, including ENA, G99, and BS EN standards.
- Liaise with DNOs, National Grid, and other stakeholders throughout the design and approval process.
- Conduct site surveys, feasibility studies, and provide technical support during construction and commissioning phases.
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or a related discipline.
- Minimum of 7 years of experience in electrical design engineering, specifically focused on grid connections.
- Strong understanding of high-voltage substation design, protection systems, and earthing design.
- Proficiency with design software such as AutoCAD Electrical and ETAP.
- Experience in managing design projects and leading engineering teams.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
