Lead Electrical Design Engineer

About the Role

Our client, a renowned specialist in complex infrastructure projects, is seeking a talented Lead Electrical Design Engineer to head up their design team based in Newcastle upon Tyne . This pivotal role involves overseeing the conceptualization and detailed design of electrical installations for large-scale commercial and industrial developments. You will be responsible for ensuring that all designs are innovative, cost-effective, and fully compliant with UK and international electrical standards. The successful candidate will play a key role in shaping project outcomes and mentoring a team of dedicated electrical engineers, fostering an environment of technical excellence and collaborative problem-solving in the vibrant city of Newcastle upon Tyne .

Key Responsibilities

• Lead and manage the electrical design process for major projects, from initial feasibility studies through to detailed construction drawings and specifications.
• Ensure all electrical designs comply with relevant building regulations, British Standards (BS 7671), and other applicable legislation.
• Conduct site surveys and technical assessments to gather data for design purposes and to resolve on-site issues.
• Supervise and guide a team of electrical engineers and technicians, providing technical expertise and reviewing their work.
• Develop and maintain strong relationships with clients, contractors, and other stakeholders to ensure project success and client satisfaction.

Requirements

• Chartered Engineer (CEng) status or equivalent professional qualification in Electrical Engineering.
• Extensive experience (10+ years) in electrical design, with a significant portion in a leadership or senior role, ideally within large construction projects.
• In-depth knowledge of UK electrical regulations, such as BS 7671 (IET Wiring Regulations), and experience with C- / D- / E-Class and low voltage systems.
• Proficiency in industry-standard design software, including BIM (Revit MEP), Amtech, and Dialux.
• Demonstrated ability to lead project teams, manage workload effectively, and deliver high-quality engineering solutions.
