Lead Game Designer

About the Role

Our client is seeking an experienced and innovative Lead Game Designer to guide the vision and development of exciting new projects in Oxford . This leadership role involves overseeing the game design team, defining core gameplay mechanics, and ensuring a cohesive and engaging player experience. You will collaborate closely with producers, artists, and engineers to translate creative concepts into compelling game designs that resonate with players. Key Responsibilities

• Lead, mentor, and inspire a team of game designers, fostering a collaborative and creative environment.
• Define and document core gameplay mechanics, systems, and player progression.
• Oversee the design of levels, puzzles, and in-game economies to ensure they are balanced and engaging.
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams to ensure design vision is executed effectively across all disciplines.
• Conduct playtesting sessions and analyze player feedback to iterate and improve game design.
• Champion the player experience, ensuring the game is fun, accessible, and memorable.

Requirements

• 5+ years of experience in game design , with at least two shipped titles in a lead or senior role.
• Strong understanding of game design principles , including player psychology, system design, and level design.
• Experience with game design documentation tools (e.g., GDDs, flowcharts, wireframes).
• Proficiency in a game engine such as Unity or Unreal Engine is highly desirable.
• Excellent leadership, communication, and problem-solving skills.
• A passion for games and a deep understanding of the current gaming landscape.
