Lead Geologist - Exploration

About the Role

Our client is seeking a dynamic and experienced Lead Geologist to spearhead their exploration initiatives in the vicinity of Newcastle upon Tyne . This senior role is critical for identifying and evaluating new mineral deposits, guiding exploration programs, and ensuring the geological viability of future projects. You will work closely with the operations and management teams to provide expert geological insights, contributing to the long-term strategic growth of the company's mining interests. The ideal candidate will possess a deep understanding of geological principles and a passion for discovery in the UK mining landscape .

Key Responsibilities

• Lead and manage geological exploration projects from conception through to resource delineation.
• Develop and execute detailed exploration plans, including geophysical surveys, drilling programs, and sampling strategies.
• Interpret geological data, including core logging, assay results, and structural mapping, to define mineralised zones.
• Utilise advanced geological modeling software to create and refine resource estimates.
• Supervise and mentor a team of geologists and field technicians, fostering a collaborative and technically proficient unit.
• Ensure all exploration activities comply with relevant environmental and safety regulations in the Tyne and Wear region.

Requirements

• Master's degree or PhD in Geology or a related earth science discipline.
• Minimum of 8 years of experience in mineral exploration, with a focus on geological mapping and resource modeling .
• Proficiency in industry-standard geological software (e.g., Leapfrog, ArcGIS, ioGAS).
• Demonstrated experience in supervising drilling operations and managing field-based geological teams.
• Strong understanding of mineral deposit types and exploration techniques relevant to the UK geological setting .
• Excellent communication, report writing, and presentation skills.
