Lead Geologist - Resource Estimation

About the Role

Our client is seeking a highly experienced Lead Geologist to head their resource estimation team in Newcastle upon Tyne . This pivotal role focuses on evaluating and quantifying mineral resources, utilizing advanced geological modeling and statistical techniques. You will lead a team of geologists and geostatisticians, ensuring the accuracy and integrity of resource estimates for various mining projects across the UK. The position requires a deep understanding of mineralogy, structural geology, and geostatistics, combined with strong leadership capabilities. Key Responsibilities

• Lead the geological team in conducting comprehensive resource and reserve estimations using state-of-the-art geostatistical methods.
• Develop and implement robust geological models based on exploration data, including drill core, assay results, and geophysical surveys.
• Review and validate geological data, ensuring accuracy, consistency, and adherence to industry reporting standards (e.g., JORC, NI 43-101).
• Provide expert geological input and recommendations for mine planning, exploration targeting, and project development.
• Mentor and guide junior geologists and geostatisticians, fostering technical growth and professional development within the team.
• Present geological findings and resource estimates to senior management, stakeholders, and investment partners.

Requirements

• Master's or PhD degree in Geology, Economic Geology, or a related field.
• Minimum of 10 years of experience in mineral exploration and resource geology, with at least 3 years in a leadership role.
• Demonstrated expertise in geostatistical modeling , variography, and resource estimation techniques.
• Proficiency with geological modeling software (e.g., Leapfrog, Vulcan, Datamine).
• In-depth knowledge of various ore deposit types and mineralization styles relevant to the UK mining landscape .
• Excellent analytical, report-writing, and presentation skills.
