Lead Geologist

About the Role

Our client is actively seeking a highly experienced Lead Geologist to enhance their exploration and production operations in Newcastle upon Tyne . This senior position demands a deep understanding of subsurface geology, including seismic interpretation, sequence stratigraphy, and basin analysis, essential for identifying and evaluating potential Oil & Gas prospects. The successful candidate will lead geological teams, contribute to strategic exploration planning, and ensure the accurate geological modeling of reservoirs. This is a critical role for an expert who can drive exploration success and provide invaluable subsurface insights within a globally recognized energy company.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead the geological interpretation of seismic data and well logs to define subsurface structures and stratigraphy.
• Develop and manage integrated geological models for exploration and development projects.
• Collaborate with reservoir and geophysics teams to optimize prospect identification and risk assessment.
• Contribute to the company's exploration strategy, identifying new play concepts and opportunities.
• Mentor and guide junior geologists, fostering a high-performing technical team environment.
• Present geological interpretations and recommendations to senior management and external partners.

Requirements

• Master's degree or PhD in Geology, Geophysics, or a related Earth Science field.
• A minimum of 10 years' experience in exploration geology within the Oil & Gas industry .
• Expertise in seismic interpretation software (e.g., Petrel, Kingdom) and geological modeling tools.
• Proven track record in prospect generation and subsurface risk assessment.
• Excellent understanding of regional tectonics, depositional environments, and petroleum systems.
• Strong leadership, communication, and presentation skills.
