Lead Geoscientist - Exploration

About the Role

Our client is seeking a highly experienced and motivated Lead Geoscientist to spearhead their exploration activities based in Birmingham . You will be instrumental in identifying and evaluating new hydrocarbon prospects, integrating geological, geophysical, and geochemical data to build robust subsurface models. This senior role requires a strategic thinker with a deep understanding of exploration workflows and risk assessment. You will lead a team of geoscientists, mentor junior staff, and collaborate closely with reservoir and production engineers to define the company's future exploration strategy, contributing significantly to the energy resource pipeline.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead the interpretation of seismic data, well logs, and regional geological studies to identify and mature exploration targets.
• Develop and manage integrated subsurface models, incorporating all available geological and geophysical information.
• Perform prospect risking and economic evaluations to support investment decisions.
• Mentor and guide a team of geoscientists, fostering a collaborative and high-performance environment.
• Present exploration opportunities and technical findings to internal stakeholders and joint venture partners.

Requirements

• MSc or PhD in Geology, Geophysics, or a related geoscience discipline.
• 10+ years of progressive experience in oil and gas exploration, with a proven track record of successful prospect generation.
• Expertise in seismic interpretation software (e.g., Petrel, Kingdom) and geological modeling tools.
• Strong understanding of basin analysis, petroleum systems, and structural geology.
• Demonstrated leadership capabilities and excellent communication skills.
