Lead Geotechnical Engineer - Offshore Wind

About the Role

Our client is seeking a highly experienced Lead Geotechnical Engineer to spearhead critical projects within the rapidly expanding offshore wind sector . Based in Newcastle upon Tyne , you will be responsible for overseeing all geotechnical aspects of offshore wind farm development, from site investigation and analysis to foundation design and installation support. This role demands a deep understanding of soil mechanics, foundation engineering, and the unique challenges presented by marine environments. You will lead a dedicated team of engineers and contribute to shaping the future of sustainable energy infrastructure, working closely with project managers and stakeholders to ensure successful project execution in a challenging and rewarding field.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead the geotechnical investigation, analysis, and design for offshore wind farm foundations .
• Manage geotechnical data acquisition, including surveys, soil borings, and laboratory testing.
• Develop and review detailed geotechnical reports, risk assessments, and design specifications.
• Provide expert technical guidance and mentorship to a team of geotechnical engineers.
• Oversee the tendering process for geotechnical services and equipment.
• Collaborate with structural engineers, naval architects, and construction teams to ensure integrated project solutions.
• Liaise with clients, regulatory bodies, and other stakeholders to address technical and project requirements.

Requirements

• Ph.D. or Master's degree in Geotechnical Engineering, Civil Engineering, or a closely related field.
• Minimum of 10 years of progressive experience in geotechnical engineering , with a strong specialization in offshore projects , particularly wind farms.
• In-depth knowledge of soil mechanics, site characterization, numerical modeling (e.g., Plaxis, Geostudio), and foundation design principles for offshore structures.
• Proven experience managing complex geotechnical investigations and design projects from inception to completion.
• Familiarity with relevant industry standards and best practices (e.g., DNV, IEC).
• Excellent leadership, project management, and communication skills.
