Lead Geotechnical Engineer

About the Role

Our client is seeking a highly skilled and motivated Lead Geotechnical Engineer to join their expanding consultancy in Cardiff . This role is critical for ensuring the stability and safety of a wide range of construction projects across Wales. You will be responsible for overseeing the geotechnical investigation process, interpreting complex soil and rock mechanics data, and providing expert advice on foundation design, slope stability, and ground improvement techniques. This is an excellent opportunity for a seasoned professional to take on greater responsibility, lead a specialist team, and contribute to significant regional development projects from their base in Cardiff .

Key Responsibilities

• Lead and manage all aspects of geotechnical site investigations, including planning, execution, and data analysis.
• Provide expert advice and design solutions for foundations, retaining walls, tunnels, and earthworks.
• Conduct slope stability analyses and develop mitigation strategies for potential landslides and erosion.
• Review and approve geotechnical reports, calculations, and design drawings prepared by the team.
• Liaise with clients, contractors, and regulatory authorities to ensure project requirements are met and technical challenges are resolved effectively.
• Mentor and develop junior geotechnical engineers, promoting best practices in the field.

Requirements

• A Master's degree in Geotechnical Engineering, Civil Engineering, or a related discipline.
• A minimum of 8 years of relevant professional experience in geotechnical engineering .
• Strong understanding of soil mechanics, rock mechanics, and foundation engineering principles.
• Proficiency with geotechnical software such as PLAXIS, GeoStudio, or similar.
• Experience in managing multiple projects and leading technical teams.
• Excellent report writing and communication skills, with the ability to present complex technical information clearly.
