Lead Geotechnical Engineer

About the Role

Our client is seeking a highly skilled Lead Geotechnical Engineer to head up their specialist team in Portsmouth . This senior role is crucial for providing expert advice and technical leadership on ground conditions and foundation design for a wide range of civil engineering projects. You will be responsible for managing geotechnical investigations, interpreting data, and developing innovative solutions to complex ground-related challenges. Key Responsibilities

• Lead the planning, execution, and interpretation of geotechnical investigations and site characterization.
• Provide expert analysis and design recommendations for foundations, slopes, earthworks, and retaining structures.
• Develop and implement risk management strategies for ground-related issues.
• Manage geotechnical projects, including scope, budget, and client liaison.
• Mentor and guide junior geotechnical engineers and technicians within the team.
• Ensure compliance with relevant geotechnical standards, codes of practice, and health and safety regulations.

Requirements

• Master's degree in Geotechnical Engineering, Civil Engineering, or a related field.
• Extensive experience (8+ years) specifically in geotechnical engineering , including site investigation and design.
• Proficiency with geotechnical software (e.g., PLAXIS, Geo5) and data analysis techniques.
• Strong understanding of soil mechanics, rock mechanics, and hydrogeology.
• Excellent report writing, communication, and client-facing skills.
• Chartered Engineer (CEng) or equivalent professional qualification preferred.
