Lead Mechanical Design Engineer

About the Role

Our client is seeking a highly motivated and experienced Lead Mechanical Design Engineer to join their growing team in Sheffield . This senior role will involve leading complex design projects, mentoring junior engineers, and driving innovation in mechanical systems development. You will be responsible for ensuring the technical integrity and successful delivery of designs, working closely with manufacturing and other engineering disciplines to bring concepts to fruition.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead the design and development of complex mechanical systems and components from concept to production.
• Provide technical guidance and mentorship to a team of mechanical design engineers.
• Oversee the creation of detailed CAD models, drawings, and specifications, ensuring adherence to quality standards.
• Conduct and review advanced FEA and CFD simulations to optimize designs for performance, durability, and manufacturability.
• Collaborate with manufacturing engineers to ensure designs are optimized for efficient production processes.
• Manage project timelines and resources effectively, ensuring on-time delivery of design deliverables.

Requirements

• Master's degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related field.
• Minimum of 8 years of experience in mechanical design, with a significant portion in a leadership or lead engineer role.
• Expertise in advanced CAD software (e.g., SolidWorks, CATIA) and simulation tools (e.g., ANSYS, Abaqus).
• Proven track record of leading complex design projects from concept to launch.
• Strong understanding of materials science , manufacturing processes, and design for manufacturing (DFM) principles.
• Excellent leadership, communication, and problem-solving skills.
