Lead Mining Engineer - Underground Operations

About the Role

Our client is seeking a highly experienced and dynamic Lead Mining Engineer to oversee underground operations in Newcastle upon Tyne . This senior position is critical for ensuring the efficient, safe, and profitable extraction of resources. You will be responsible for the strategic planning, design, and execution of all underground mining activities, managing a team of engineers and technicians. The successful candidate will have a strong background in underground mining methodologies , mine planning software, and a commitment to upholding the highest standards of safety and operational excellence within the UK mining industry .

Key Responsibilities

• Develop and implement comprehensive mine plans for underground operations, optimizing for safety, productivity, and cost-effectiveness.
• Manage and mentor a team of mining engineers, supervisors, and technical staff, fostering a culture of high performance.
• Oversee the design, construction, and maintenance of all underground infrastructure, including shafts, tunnels, and ventilation systems.
• Ensure strict adherence to all health, safety, and environmental regulations in alignment with UK mining legislation.
• Utilize advanced mine planning and simulation software to identify opportunities for operational improvements.
• Conduct regular site inspections and performance reviews to monitor progress and address any challenges.

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in Mining Engineering or a closely related discipline.
• A minimum of 10 years of progressive experience in underground mining engineering , with at least 3 years in a leadership role.
• Proficiency in mine planning software such as Deswik, Vulcan, or similar.
• In-depth knowledge of various underground mining methods (e.g., drift and fill, longwall, room and pillar).
• Strong understanding of rock mechanics, ventilation, dewatering, and mine surveying principles.
• Excellent leadership, project management, and decision-making capabilities.
