Lead Process Engineer

About the Role

Our client is seeking an experienced Lead Process Engineer to manage and execute process design for major energy projects based in Derby, Derbyshire . You will be responsible for leading process engineering teams, developing process flow diagrams (PFDs), piping and instrumentation diagrams (P&IDs), and ensuring designs meet safety, environmental, and operational requirements. This senior position demands strong technical leadership, excellent communication skills, and a thorough understanding of process design principles within the petrochemical or energy sectors. You will play a key role in shaping project outcomes and ensuring technical excellence from concept through to execution.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead the development of process design packages, including PFDs, P&IDs , and equipment specifications.
• Perform process simulations and calculations to optimize designs and ensure performance targets are met.
• Conduct process hazard analyses (PHAs) and implement safety measures.
• Manage and mentor a team of process engineers, providing technical guidance and support.
• Ensure designs comply with relevant industry codes, standards, and environmental regulations.
• Collaborate with other engineering disciplines, procurement, and construction teams.

Requirements

• Bachelor's or Master's degree in Chemical Engineering or a related discipline.
• Minimum of 10 years of experience in process engineering within the oil, gas, or petrochemical industries.
• Proven experience in leading process design for large-scale projects.
• Expertise in process simulation software (e.g., Aspen Plus, HYSYS) and P&ID development tools.
• Strong understanding of thermodynamics , fluid dynamics, and heat transfer.
• Excellent leadership, communication, and project management skills.
