Lead Process Safety Engineer

About the Role

Our client is seeking a highly experienced Lead Process Safety Engineer to enhance safety protocols for their operations based in Coventry . This critical role involves championing process safety management (PSM) principles across all engineering and operational activities. You will be instrumental in developing, implementing, and maintaining robust safety systems, ensuring compliance with industry regulations and standards. The successful candidate will lead a team, drive safety culture initiatives, and play a key part in mitigating risks associated with complex industrial processes in the energy sector .

Key Responsibilities

• Lead the development and implementation of comprehensive Process Safety Management (PSM) programs.
• Conduct Hazard and Operability (HAZOP) studies, Layer of Protection Analysis (LOPA), and other risk assessment techniques.
• Develop and review Safety Critical Equipment (SCE) procedures and verification schemes.
• Investigate incidents and near misses, identifying root causes and implementing effective corrective actions to prevent recurrence.
• Ensure compliance with relevant safety legislation and industry best practices for the oil and gas sector .
• Mentor and guide junior engineers and technical staff on process safety principles and applications.

Requirements

• Degree in Chemical Engineering or a related discipline with a strong focus on safety.
• Minimum of 8 years of progressive experience in process safety engineering, preferably within the oil and gas industry .
• Demonstrated expertise in conducting quantitative and qualitative risk assessments.
• In-depth knowledge of international safety standards and regulations (e.g., OSHA PSM, Seveso Directive).
• Strong leadership, communication, and influencing skills to drive safety initiatives across the organization.
