Lead Process Safety Engineer

About the Role

Our client is seeking a highly experienced and dedicated Lead Process Safety Engineer to enhance safety protocols and ensure compliance within their operations in Newcastle upon Tyne . This senior position is crucial for maintaining the highest standards of process safety, minimizing risks associated with hydrocarbon operations, and fostering a robust safety culture. You will lead the process safety initiatives, championing best practices and overseeing the implementation of critical safety management systems. Key Responsibilities

• Develop, implement, and maintain the company's Process Safety Management (PSM) system, ensuring alignment with industry standards and regulations.
• Conduct and lead Process Hazard Analyses (PHAs), including HAZOP, LOPA, and FMEA studies, to identify and mitigate process risks.
• Oversee incident investigations, root cause analysis, and the implementation of corrective actions to prevent recurrence.
• Provide expert technical guidance on process safety aspects during project design, construction, and operational phases.
• Develop and deliver process safety training programs to relevant personnel across the organization.
• Ensure compliance with all relevant safety legislation and company policies, auditing safety performance and reporting on key metrics.

Requirements

• Degree in Chemical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a related discipline.
• Minimum of 10 years of experience in process safety engineering, with at least 3 years in a lead or supervisory role within the oil and gas industry .
• In-depth knowledge of PSM elements (e.g., OSHA , Seveso Directive) and relevant industry standards (e.g., API, CCPS).
• Proven experience in leading HAZOPs, LOPAs, and other risk assessment methodologies.
• Strong understanding of mechanical integrity, management of change, and emergency response planning.
• Excellent leadership, communication, and stakeholder management skills, with the ability to influence at all levels.
