Lead Research Scientist - Drug Metabolism

About the Role

Our client is seeking a highly experienced Lead Research Scientist to drive their drug metabolism and pharmacokinetics (DMPK) research in Oxford . This senior role is integral to the drug discovery and development process, ensuring that potential therapeutic candidates possess optimal ADME (Absorption, Distribution, Metabolism, Excretion) properties. You will lead a team of scientists, design critical studies, and provide expert interpretation of DMPK data to guide project progression. Key Responsibilities

• Lead and direct drug metabolism and pharmacokinetic (DMPK ) studies for small molecule drug candidates.
• Design and implement in vitro and in vivo studies to assess drug metabolism, transporter interactions, and pharmacokinetic profiles.
• Interpret complex DMPK data and provide strategic recommendations to drug discovery project teams.
• Mentor and guide junior scientists in the DMPK group, fostering scientific rigor and collaboration.
• Develop and validate new assays and methodologies for DMPK assessment.
• Ensure compliance with regulatory guidelines and contribute to regulatory submissions.

Requirements

• PhD in Pharmacology, Biochemistry, Pharmaceutical Sciences, or a related discipline.
• Minimum of 7 years of progressive experience in drug discovery, with a specialized focus on DMPK.
• Proven experience in leading research projects and managing scientific staff.
• In-depth understanding of drug metabolism pathways, drug-drug interactions, and pharmacokinetic principles.
• Hands-on experience with in vitro ADME assays (e.g., metabolic stability, CYP inhibition/induction, permeability) and PK analysis.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with excellent written and verbal communication abilities.
