About the Role
Our client is seeking an experienced Lead Scientist in Structural Biology to join their advanced research and development group in Reading . This critical role involves leading projects focused on determining the 3D structures of proteins and other biomolecules, which is fundamental to understanding their function and facilitating drug discovery. You will guide a team of scientists, utilize state-of-the-art structural biology techniques, and collaborate closely with chemists and biologists to address complex scientific challenges. This is an exciting opportunity for a seasoned structural biologist to contribute to significant scientific advancements in a highly collaborative and well-resourced research environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead structural biology projects, overseeing experimental design, execution, and data interpretation using techniques such as X-ray crystallography, Cryo-EM, and NMR.
- Manage and mentor a team of structural biologists and research associates, providing technical guidance and fostering scientific development.
- Optimize protein expression, purification, and crystallization/sample preparation strategies for structure determination.
- Collaborate closely with medicinal chemists and biologists to elucidate drug-target interactions and guide lead optimization.
- Analyze and interpret complex structural data, build models, and contribute to structure-based drug design efforts.
- Contribute to scientific publications, presentations, and intellectual property generation in Reading .
Requirements
- PhD in Structural Biology, Biochemistry, Biophysics, or a related field.
- Significant experience (7+ years) in structural biology, with a proven track record of leading research projects and teams.
- Extensive hands-on experience with multiple structural biology techniques, including X-ray crystallography and/or Cryo-Electron Microscopy (Cryo-EM).
- Proficiency in protein expression, purification, and characterization.
- Experience with structure determination and refinement software.
- Excellent communication, leadership, and problem-solving skills, with a strong publication record.
