Senior Scientist - Chemical Biology

About the Role

Our client is seeking a highly skilled Senior Scientist with a focus on Chemical Biology to join their innovative research team in Reading . This position is integral to the discovery and development of novel therapeutics by applying chemical principles to biological systems. You will be responsible for designing and executing experiments that elucidate molecular mechanisms, identify drug targets, and characterize small molecule activity. Working within a dynamic, multidisciplinary environment, you will play a key role in advancing drug discovery programs from early-stage research through to preclinical development, contributing significantly to the company's pipeline.

Key Responsibilities

• Design and execute experiments using chemical probes to investigate biological pathways and targets.
• Develop and implement assays to assess the activity and selectivity of small molecules in biological systems.
• Collaborate with medicinal chemists to optimize compound properties and guide structure-activity relationship (SAR) studies.
• Utilize a range of biochemical, biophysical, and cell-based techniques relevant to chemical biology.
• Analyze and interpret complex datasets, generating insights to inform project strategy and decision-making.
• Contribute to the preparation of scientific publications, patents, and presentations.

Requirements

• Ph.D. in Chemical Biology, Biochemistry, Organic Chemistry, Pharmacology, or a related field.
• Minimum of 5 years of post-doctoral or industry experience, with a strong focus on chemical biology.
• Proven experience in designing and synthesizing chemical probes and small molecules.
• Proficiency in a variety of assay formats, including biochemical, biophysical, and cell-based assays.
• Strong understanding of molecular biology, cell biology, and drug discovery processes.
• Excellent problem-solving abilities and strong communication skills for a hybrid work model in Reading .
