About the Role
Our client, a studio celebrated for its visually stunning games, is seeking a highly skilled Lead Technical Artist to join their vibrant team in Portsmouth . In this crucial role, you will bridge the gap between art and engineering, ensuring that artistic vision is realized efficiently and effectively within the technical constraints of game development. You will lead a team of technical artists, develop and optimize art pipelines, and provide essential support to the art department. This position is ideal for an experienced technical artist who thrives on solving complex problems, optimizing workflows, and mentoring others to achieve exceptional visual results within a collaborative studio environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead and mentor the technical art team, guiding their development and ensuring high-quality output.
- Develop, maintain, and optimize art pipelines, tools, and workflows to enhance efficiency and art quality.
- Collaborate closely with artists and programmers to solve technical challenges and implement new features.
- Create and maintain shaders, materials, and lighting setups to achieve desired visual targets.
- Champion best practices in asset creation, performance optimization, and engine integration for art assets.
Requirements
- Minimum of 6 years of experience as a Technical Artist in the games industry, with demonstrated leadership experience.
- Strong proficiency in 3D modeling, texturing, rigging, and animation principles.
- Expertise in game engine tools and workflows (e.g., Unreal Engine, Unity), including shader creation and optimization.
- Experience with scripting languages (e.g., Python, MEL) for tool development.
- Excellent problem-solving abilities and strong communication skills for effective collaboration within a studio setting.
