About the Role
Our client is looking for a visionary Lead VFX Artist to spearhead the visual effects department in our Birmingham studio. You will be responsible for defining the artistic direction and technical execution of all visual effects, ensuring they meet the highest standards of quality and performance. This role is crucial for creating breathtaking in-game effects that enhance player immersion and elevate the overall aesthetic of our titles. You will guide a team of talented artists, fostering an environment of creativity and technical excellence, and collaborating with other departments to achieve project goals.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead the VFX art team, providing artistic direction, technical guidance, and constructive feedback.
- Develop and implement stunning visual effects for characters, environments, and gameplay events, including explosions, magic, and environmental phenomena.
- Optimize VFX assets for performance across multiple platforms, ensuring smooth frame rates and efficient resource utilization.
- Collaborate with game designers and engineers to ensure VFX align with gameplay mechanics and narrative requirements.
- Define and maintain the VFX style guide and establish best practices for asset creation and implementation.
Requirements
- Proven experience as a VFX Artist, with at least 3 years in a lead or senior role .
- Demonstrated expertise in creating high-quality real-time VFX using engines like Unreal Engine or Unity.
- Proficiency in relevant software such as Houdini, Maya, and Photoshop.
- Strong understanding of particle systems, shaders, and material creation.
- Excellent leadership, communication, and problem-solving skills, with experience working in a studio environment in Birmingham .
