About the Role

Our client is seeking a visionary Lead VFX Artist to spearhead the visual effects department in their bustling Birmingham studio. You will be responsible for defining and executing the visual style of spectacular effects that bring our projects to life. This senior role requires a blend of artistic talent, technical expertise, and strong leadership skills. You will guide a team of talented artists, ensuring the highest standards of visual fidelity and performance across all visual effects elements, working closely with art directors and technical directors to achieve breathtaking results that enhance player immersion and narrative impact.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead and mentor a team of VFX artists, fostering a collaborative and creative environment.
• Develop and implement cutting-edge visual effects pipelines and workflows.
• Create stunning real-time effects such as explosions, magic, fire, and environmental phenomena.
• Optimize VFX assets for performance across various target platforms, ensuring smooth frame rates.
• Collaborate with art directors and technical directors to establish and maintain the visual quality bar.
• Review and provide feedback on team members' work, ensuring consistency and artistic integrity.

Requirements

• Proven experience as a VFX Artist or Technical Artist, with at least 3 years in a lead or senior role.
• A strong portfolio showcasing exceptional real-time VFX work and artistic skill.
• Expertise in particle systems, shaders, and material creation within game engines (e.g., Unreal Engine, Unity).
• Proficiency in industry-standard 3D software (e.g., Maya, Blender) and 2D software (e.g., Photoshop, After Effects).
• Deep understanding of the technical constraints and performance considerations for real-time graphics.
• Excellent leadership, communication, and problem-solving abilities.
