Legal Counsel - Energy Sector

About the Role

Our client is seeking a specialist Legal Counsel with expertise in the energy sector to join their busy legal department based in Edinburgh . This role requires a deep understanding of energy law, project development, and regulatory frameworks within the UK. You will be responsible for providing critical legal support to projects and operations, managing risks, and ensuring compliance. Key Responsibilities

• Provide expert legal advice on energy-related projects, including development, financing, and operational matters.
• Draft, review, and negotiate contracts specific to the energy sector, such as PPAs, EPC contracts, and supply agreements.
• Advise on regulatory compliance, environmental law, and planning permissions relevant to energy infrastructure.
• Manage legal risks associated with the company's operations and projects across the UK.
• Liaise with external counsel, regulatory bodies, and stakeholders in the energy industry.
• Support the business in navigating complex legal challenges and opportunities in the evolving energy landscape.

Requirements

• Qualified Solicitor or Barrister with significant experience in energy law.
• Minimum of 6 years' post-qualification experience, with a strong focus on project development and commercial contracts in the energy sector.
• In-depth knowledge of UK energy legislation and regulatory regimes.
• Experience with renewable energy projects is highly desirable.
• Excellent contract drafting, negotiation, and advisory skills.
• Ability to work effectively both independently and collaboratively within a dynamic team based in Edinburgh .
