Legal Counsel - Intellectual Property

About the Role

Our client is seeking an experienced Legal Counsel with a specialization in Intellectual Property to join their innovative legal team in Oxford . This role is critical for protecting and managing the company's valuable IP portfolio, including patents, trademarks, and copyrights. You will provide strategic legal advice on IP matters, support R&D initiatives, and manage IP-related agreements and disputes. The ideal candidate will have a strong understanding of IP law and its application in a technology-driven environment, working collaboratively with various departments to maximize the value and security of the company's intellectual assets.

Key Responsibilities

• Manage and protect the company's global intellectual property portfolio, including patent and trademark prosecution.
• Draft, review, and negotiate IP-related agreements, such as licenses, joint development agreements, and NDAs.
• Provide legal advice on IP strategy, IP due diligence for transactions, and freedom-to-operate matters.
• Advise on IP enforcement, infringement issues, and dispute resolution.
• Support commercial teams in protecting brand identity and product innovation.
• Stay current with developments in IP law and relevant technological fields.

Requirements

• Qualified solicitor or barrister with a minimum of 5 years' experience, with a significant focus on intellectual property law.
• Experience in managing patent and trademark portfolios is essential.
• Strong understanding of IP litigation, licensing, and commercial IP transactions.
• Excellent analytical, drafting, and negotiation skills.
• Ability to work effectively with technical teams and translate complex IP concepts.
• Membership of a relevant professional body and relevant certifications are advantageous.
