Livestock Manager

About the Role

Our client is seeking an experienced and dedicated Livestock Manager to oversee animal husbandry operations at their farm near Oxford . This crucial role demands a strong understanding of animal welfare, breeding, nutrition, and health management. The successful candidate will be responsible for ensuring the optimal health, productivity, and welfare of the farm's livestock, managing staff, and implementing efficient operational practices. This is a hands-on opportunity to contribute to the success of an agricultural enterprise in the Oxfordshire region, maintaining high standards in animal care.

Key Responsibilities

• Oversee the daily care, feeding, and health management of livestock (e.g., cattle, sheep, poultry).
• Develop and implement breeding programs to improve herd/flock genetics and productivity.
• Monitor animal health, identify signs of illness or distress, and administer appropriate treatments.
• Manage feed procurement and ensure optimal nutrition plans are followed.
• Supervise and train livestock workers, ensuring tasks are performed correctly and safely.
• Maintain accurate records of livestock numbers, health, treatments, and productivity.

Requirements

• Proven experience in livestock management, with a strong understanding of animal husbandry.
• Knowledge of animal welfare standards, breeding cycles, and nutritional requirements.
• Ability to recognize and treat common livestock ailments.
• Good leadership and communication skills, with the ability to manage a team.
• A relevant qualification in Animal Science, Agriculture, or a related field is preferred.
