Livestock Manager

About the Role

Our client is seeking a dedicated and experienced Livestock Manager to oversee their livestock operations in Northern Ireland . This role is essential for maintaining the health, welfare, and productivity of the farm's animals, which may include cattle, sheep, or other livestock. You will be responsible for all day-to-day activities related to animal husbandry, including feeding, health monitoring, breeding programmes, and ensuring compliance with welfare standards. This is a practical, hands-on role for an individual with a deep understanding of animal behaviour and a commitment to high standards of animal care within a commercial farming setting.

Key Responsibilities

• Manage the daily feeding, watering, and care of all livestock on the farm.
• Implement and oversee breeding programmes to maximise herd or flock fertility and quality.
• Monitor animal health closely, administering basic treatments and liaising with veterinary professionals when necessary.
• Ensure all livestock housing and facilities are maintained to high standards of hygiene and welfare.
• Maintain detailed records of animal health, breeding, movements, and production.
• Supervise and train farmhands involved in livestock care, ensuring safe working practices.

Requirements

• Significant practical experience in livestock management , preferably in a supervisory capacity.
• In-depth knowledge of animal husbandry for relevant species (e.g., cattle, sheep, pigs).
• Understanding of animal health, welfare regulations, and best practices.
• Ability to recognize signs of illness or distress in animals and take appropriate action.
• Good organizational skills and attention to detail for record-keeping.
• A passion for animal welfare and a strong work ethic.
