Job Description
We are looking for an experienced Male Support Worker to join our Adult Services team in Northbourne, providing high-quality, person-centred support to a gentleman with complex care needs. This is a rewarding opportunity for someone who is compassionate, reliable and committed to helping the people we support live happy, fulfilling and independent lives.
Due to the needs of these people we support, we can only consider applications from male candidates with experience in Autism or Complex Care, supporting people on a 2:1 basis.
Please note: Autism Unlimited does not provide visa sponsorship.
The role
As a Support Worker, you’ll provide personalised support to Miles in his home in Northbourne, helping him live a fulfilling life, develop his skills and take part in the activities he enjoys. You’ll build a positive relationship with Miles, getting to know his personality, preferences and aspirations, while ensuring his voice is heard and his choices are respected.
Communication is an important part of this role. Miles communicates in a variety of ways, including PECS, visual aids, signs, gestures and a digital communication device. You’ll take the time to understand his individual communication style, respond to his needs and support him to express himself.
Miles receives 2:1 support, so you’ll always be working as part of a team. Together, you’ll provide consistent, person-centred support with everything from personal care, medication and preparing meals to getting out, having fun and working towards personal goals.
Alongside supporting Miles day to day, you’ll play an important role in maintaining his support records, including care plans, finances, appointments and medication records. You’ll also follow his individual support plan, ensuring he feels comfortable, happy and supported, while using your own skills and life experience to encourage independence and develop good life skills within the community.
Hours of work - Full time
You would be required to work a mixture of shift which will vary between 7am - 10pm, on a 2 week rolling rota. This will include working alternative weekends.
