Mechanical Design Engineer - Defence

About the Role

Our client is seeking a meticulous and driven Mechanical Design Engineer to contribute to critical defence projects from their Portsmouth base. This role is instrumental in the design and development of robust mechanical systems for defence applications, demanding precision, reliability, and adherence to stringent standards. The position offers a hybrid work arrangement, combining essential on-site collaboration with the flexibility of remote work. You will join a dedicated team focused on delivering state-of-the-art solutions, working on technically demanding projects that require a high degree of engineering skill and attention to detail, ensuring national security and operational effectiveness.

Key Responsibilities

• Design and develop complex mechanical components and systems for defence platforms, meeting rigorous military specifications and performance requirements.
• Create detailed 3D CAD models, engineering drawings, and comprehensive technical documentation using industry-standard software.
• Perform stress analysis , vibration analysis, and other engineering calculations to ensure the resilience and safety of defence systems.
• Collaborate closely with systems engineers, project managers, and manufacturing teams to ensure successful integration and production.
• Conduct thorough reviews of designs and contribute to risk assessments and mitigation strategies for defence applications.
• Support testing and trials, troubleshooting issues and implementing design modifications as required in a secure environment.

Requirements

• Degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related field.
• Minimum of 5 years of experience in mechanical design, with a strong background in the defence sector or other high-reliability industries.
• Proficiency in advanced 3D CAD software (e.g., CATIA, SolidWorks) and PDM/PLM systems.
• Knowledge of military standards, materials selection for harsh environments, and defence manufacturing processes.
• Experience with FEA tools for structural and dynamic analysis is essential.
• Ability to work effectively in a hybrid model and obtain necessary security clearances.
