Mechanical Design Engineer - Manufacturing

About the Role

Our client, a well-established manufacturing firm, is seeking a talented Mechanical Design Engineer to bolster their product development capabilities in Stoke-on-Trent . This role is central to the design and improvement of the company's diverse range of manufactured products, from initial concept generation through to detailed design, prototyping, and production support. You will work closely with production teams, R&D, and marketing to ensure that designs are innovative, cost-effective, and meet customer requirements and market demands. This position offers a significant opportunity to contribute directly to the company's product portfolio and manufacturing processes.

Key Responsibilities

• Develop innovative mechanical designs for new products and improvements to existing product lines using 3D CAD software .
• Create detailed engineering drawings, schematics, and bills of materials for manufacturing.
• Conduct tolerance analysis, stress calculations, and basic performance simulations to validate designs.
• Liaise with the manufacturing department to ensure design for manufacturability (DFM) and assembly (DFA).
• Build and test prototypes, troubleshoot issues, and refine designs based on testing results and feedback.
• Support the product lifecycle by addressing design-related queries and implementing design changes.

Requirements

• Degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related technical field.
• Minimum of 5 years of experience in mechanical product design and development within a manufacturing environment.
• Proficiency in CAD software (e.g., Inventor, SolidWorks, or similar).
• Good understanding of various manufacturing processes (e.g., injection molding, machining, sheet metal fabrication).
• Familiarity with engineering materials and their properties.
• Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to work effectively in a team.
