Mechanical Design Engineer - Marine

About the Role

Our client, a leader in the design and manufacture of specialized marine equipment, is seeking a proficient Mechanical Design Engineer to join their team in Portsmouth . This role involves the conceptualization, design, and development of robust mechanical systems and components for challenging marine environments. You will be an integral part of an innovative engineering department, contributing to the creation of high-performance products that meet the demanding requirements of the maritime industry, working closely with naval architects and other specialists.

Key Responsibilities

• Design and develop mechanical systems and components for marine applications, ensuring compliance with industry standards and regulations.
• Utilize 3D CAD software for creating detailed designs, assemblies, and manufacturing drawings.
• Conduct engineering analysis, including stress, thermal, and fluid dynamics simulations, to validate designs.
• Collaborate with fabrication, assembly, and testing teams to ensure product integrity and performance.
• Prepare technical documentation, including specifications, test procedures, and Bills of Materials (BOM).
• Troubleshoot design issues and propose effective solutions to enhance product reliability and efficiency.

Requirements

• Degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related discipline.
• Minimum of 5 years of experience in mechanical design, preferably with exposure to the marine or offshore industry .
• Proficiency in CAD software (e.g., AutoCAD, SolidWorks) and familiarity with PDM systems.
• Understanding of materials suitable for marine environments and relevant manufacturing processes.
• Experience with FEA and other simulation tools is advantageous.
• Strong analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills.
