About the Role
Our client is seeking a highly innovative and skilled Mechanical Design Engineer to join their advanced robotics team, working remotely with the company based in Reading . This role is at the forefront of developing cutting-edge robotic systems for diverse applications, demanding creativity, precision, and a deep understanding of mechanical principles. As a fully remote employee, you will leverage collaborative digital tools to design, prototype, and test sophisticated robotic mechanisms. Key Responsibilities
- Design and develop complex mechanical systems for robotic platforms, including end-effectors, actuators, chassis, and sensor integration.
- Create detailed 3D CAD models, assemblies, and manufacturing drawings using advanced design software.
- Perform kinematic and dynamic analysis , FEA, and other simulations to optimise robot performance, stability, and efficiency.
- Collaborate closely with electrical, software, and control systems engineers in a remote setting to ensure seamless system integration.
- Design for manufacturability and assembly (DFMA), considering materials, machining, and assembly processes for robotic components.
- Develop and implement test procedures for prototypes and production units, troubleshooting issues and iterating designs based on performance data.
Requirements
- Degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related field with a specialization in robotics or mechatronics.
- Minimum of 6 years of experience in mechanical design, with a substantial portion dedicated to robotics and automation .
- Expertise in 3D CAD software (e.g., SolidWorks, Onshape) and simulation tools for mechanical analysis.
- Strong understanding of motor control, sensors, and mechatronic system integration.
- Experience with additive manufacturing (3D printing) and precision machining techniques is highly desirable.
- Excellent communication skills and proven ability to work effectively and independently in a fully remote environment.
