About the Role
Our client, a prominent manufacturing firm in Sunderland , is seeking a proactive Mechanical Design Engineer to join their established engineering department. This role is integral to the innovation and improvement of their product lines, focusing on designing and developing new mechanical components and systems. You will work closely with the manufacturing team to ensure designs are optimized for production and performance. This is an on-site position, offering a chance to be part of a hands-on engineering environment within a company committed to quality and continuous improvement.
Key Responsibilities
- Design and develop mechanical parts and assemblies for new products and existing product improvements using CAD software .
- Create detailed engineering drawings, specifications, and Bill of Materials (BOMs).
- Conduct design validation through calculations, simulations, and prototype testing.
- Collaborate with production engineers to ensure designs are manufacturable, cost-effective, and meet quality standards.
- Investigate and resolve design-related issues that arise during manufacturing or in the field.
- Research and recommend new materials and technologies to enhance product performance and reduce costs.
Requirements
- Degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related technical discipline.
- Experience in mechanical design, preferably in a manufacturing context.
- Proficiency in 3D CAD software (e.g., AutoCAD, Inventor, SolidWorks).
- Understanding of manufacturing processes such as machining, casting, and fabrication.
- Strong analytical skills and the ability to troubleshoot design problems effectively.
- Good communication and teamwork skills to liaise with various departments.
