About the Role
Our client is looking for a skilled Mechanical Engineer to specialize in the design and development of Special Purpose Machinery within their innovative engineering department in Nottingham . This role requires a strong understanding of bespoke machine design, automation, and system integration. You will be involved in creating unique solutions tailored to specific client needs, working from concept through to commissioning. This is an excellent opportunity for an engineer who enjoys tackling novel engineering challenges and seeing their designs come to life.
Key Responsibilities
- Design bespoke mechanical systems and machinery, from conceptualization to detailed drawings, using advanced CAD software.
- Specify and select appropriate components, including actuators, motors, bearings, and sensors, for custom machinery.
- Develop control system integration plans in collaboration with electrical and automation engineers.
- Conduct structural analysis and dynamic simulations to ensure machine performance and safety.
- Oversee the build, assembly, and testing of new machinery, providing on-site support during commissioning.
- Prepare technical documentation, including user manuals, maintenance guides, and testing reports.
Requirements
- Degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related field.
- Minimum of 4 years of experience in mechanical design, with a focus on special purpose machinery or automation.
- Proficiency in CAD software such as Inventor or SolidWorks, with experience in large assembly management.
- Understanding of pneumatic, hydraulic, and electrical control systems.
- Experience with FEA analysis and DFM principles for custom-built equipment.
- Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to work effectively in a project-driven environment.
