Media Relations Officer

About the Role

Our client is looking for a proactive and skilled Media Relations Officer to join their dynamic team based in Sunderland . This role is central to managing our external communications, building strong media partnerships, and ensuring our organisation's message is accurately and effectively conveyed. You will be the primary point of contact for media inquiries and will be responsible for developing proactive media campaigns. This is an office-based position, offering a stable and collaborative working environment within a key regional hub.

Key Responsibilities

• Manage and respond to media inquiries promptly and professionally.
• Develop and execute proactive media relations strategies to secure positive coverage.
• Build and maintain strong relationships with local, national, and industry-specific media.
• Write and distribute compelling press releases, statements, and media kits.
• Monitor media coverage and report on key outcomes and sentiment.
• Support the planning and execution of press conferences and media events.

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in Public Relations, Communications, Journalism, or a relevant field.
• 3+ years of experience in media relations or a similar communications role.
• Proven ability to build and nurture relationships with journalists and media outlets.
• Excellent writing, editing, and interpersonal skills.
• Experience in crisis communication management is advantageous.
• Strong understanding of the media landscape in the North East of England .
