About the Role
Our client is seeking a skilled Mine Geotechnical Engineer to contribute to the safety and stability of their underground and surface mining operations. Based in Edinburgh , this hybrid role will involve a combination of on-site geotechnical assessments and remote data analysis, ensuring the integrity of mine workings. You will be responsible for evaluating ground conditions, designing support systems, and monitoring slope stability to mitigate risks. Your expertise will be crucial in safeguarding personnel and assets, ensuring efficient and safe mining practices within Scotland . This position requires a blend of fieldwork and analytical skills to address complex geological challenges.
Key Responsibilities
- Conduct geotechnical investigations and stability assessments for mine excavations, slopes, and underground workings.
- Design and recommend appropriate ground support systems, including rock bolts, shotcrete, and mesh.
- Monitor ground movement and stability using instrumentation such as extensometers, piezometers, and prisms.
- Analyze geotechnical data and develop numerical models to predict ground behaviour.
- Prepare detailed geotechnical reports, design documents, and risk assessments.
- Collaborate with mine planners and engineers to integrate geotechnical considerations into mine design and operations.
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering, Geotechnical Engineering, or Mining Engineering.
- Minimum of 5 years of experience in mine geotechnical engineering.
- Proficiency with geotechnical analysis software (e.g., FLAC, Rocscience suite).
- Strong understanding of rock mechanics, soil mechanics, and geological principles.
- Experience with geotechnical instrumentation and data acquisition.
