Mine Planning Engineer

About the Role

Our client is seeking a skilled Mine Planning Engineer to join their operational team in Birmingham, West Midlands . You will be instrumental in designing and optimizing mine plans to ensure safe, efficient, and cost-effective resource extraction. This role is crucial for translating geological data into actionable mining strategies, maximizing asset value while adhering to stringent safety and environmental standards. You will work collaboratively with geologists, surveyors, and operations personnel to develop short and long-term mine plans, fostering a culture of continuous improvement and operational excellence within the mining sector.

Key Responsibilities

• Develop and update short-term and long-term mine plans using industry-standard software.
• Design open pit or underground mine layouts, including haul roads, stopes, and ventilation systems.
• Perform mine design and scheduling, including production rates, equipment selection, and resource utilization.
• Conduct feasibility studies and economic assessments for new mining projects or expansions.
• Monitor mine performance against plans and implement adjustments as needed.
• Ensure all mine plans comply with safety regulations, environmental permits, and company policies.

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in Mining Engineering or a related discipline.
• 5+ years of experience in mine planning, design, and operations.
• Proficiency with mine planning software such as Deswik, Vulcan, or similar.
• Strong understanding of open-pit or underground mining methods, geology, and geomechanics.
• Excellent analytical skills and the ability to solve complex engineering problems.
• Experience in project management and collaborating with diverse technical teams.
