Mine Safety Inspector

About the Role

Our client is looking for a vigilant and experienced Mine Safety Inspector to join their team based in Sunderland . In this critical role, you will be responsible for ensuring the highest standards of health and safety are maintained across various mine sites, conducting thorough inspections and audits to identify and mitigate potential hazards. Your expertise will be vital in promoting a safe working environment and ensuring compliance with all statutory regulations, contributing directly to the well-being of personnel and the operational integrity of the sites you oversee, working closely with site management and operational teams.

Key Responsibilities

• Conduct regular and unannounced inspections of mine sites to assess compliance with safety regulations and company policies.
• Investigate accidents, incidents, and near misses, identifying root causes and recommending corrective actions.
• Develop and deliver safety training programs to mine personnel at all levels.
• Review safety plans, risk assessments, and method statements for mining operations.
• Advise management on safety matters and recommend improvements to existing safety procedures and equipment.
• Maintain detailed records of inspections, audits, and safety performance metrics.

Requirements

• Recognised qualification in Health and Safety (e.g., NEBOSH National General Certificate or equivalent).
• Minimum of 5 years' experience in a health and safety role, preferably within the mining or heavy industry sector.
• Thorough knowledge of UK mining legislation and safety standards.
• Strong understanding of risk assessment and hazard identification techniques.
• Excellent observational skills and attention to detail.
• Effective communication and reporting skills, with the ability to engage with all levels of staff.
