Mine Safety Officer

About the Role

Our client is looking for a dedicated Mine Safety Officer to join their operational team in Glasgow . This vital role focuses on ensuring the highest standards of health and safety are maintained across all mining activities, safeguarding the well-being of all personnel. You will be responsible for developing, implementing, and enforcing comprehensive safety programs, conducting regular site inspections, and providing safety training. The ideal candidate is proactive, knowledgeable in mining safety regulations, and passionate about fostering a strong safety culture within a demanding industrial environment, contributing to a zero-harm workplace.

Key Responsibilities

• Develop, implement, and monitor the site's comprehensive health and safety management system.
• Conduct regular risk assessments, hazard identification, and safety inspections across all operational areas.
• Investigate all accidents, incidents, and near misses, determining root causes and recommending corrective actions.
• Deliver mandatory safety training programs to all site personnel, including induction and specialized training.
• Ensure compliance with all relevant national and international mining safety regulations .
• Promote a positive safety culture through engagement, communication, and proactive intervention.

Requirements

• NEBOSH National General Certificate in Occupational Health and Safety or equivalent qualification.
• Minimum of 3 years of experience in a dedicated health and safety role, preferably within the mining or heavy industry sector.
• In-depth knowledge of UK health and safety legislation and mining-specific safety standards.
• Experience in conducting incident investigations and developing corrective action plans.
• Excellent communication, presentation, and training delivery skills.
• Ability to work effectively under pressure and respond to emergency situations calmly and professionally.
