Mining Engineer - Open Pit Specialist

About the Role

Our client is seeking a specialized Mining Engineer with expertise in open-pit operations to join their team near Brighton , East Sussex . This role is integral to planning, designing, and optimizing surface mining activities to ensure efficiency, safety, and environmental compliance. You will work closely with geologists and operational staff to maximize resource recovery and operational output. This is a site-based position requiring consistent presence at the mine location.

Key Responsibilities

• Develop and maintain short-term and long-term open-pit mine plans, including scheduling and sequencing of operations.
• Optimize pit geometry, access roads, and mine infrastructure for efficient material movement.
• Conduct detailed analyses of geotechnical data to ensure slope stability and safe mining practices.
• Select and apply appropriate mining equipment and technologies for open-pit operations.
• Oversee drilling and blasting operations, ensuring optimal fragmentation and safety.
• Collaborate with environmental teams to ensure compliance with all regulations and manage rehabilitation efforts.

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in Mining Engineering.
• Minimum of 7 years of experience in open-pit mine planning and operations.
• Proficiency in mine planning software (e.g., Surpac, MinePlan, Leapfrog) and CAD tools.
• Strong understanding of open-pit mining methods, equipment, and economics.
• Knowledge of geotechnical principles related to slope stability.
• Excellent problem-solving skills and the ability to work effectively on-site.
