About the Role

Our client is seeking a detail-oriented and experienced Mortgage Underwriter Specialist to join their growing team based in Leeds . In this critical role, you will be responsible for evaluating mortgage applications, assessing credit risk, and making informed decisions to approve or deny loans, ensuring compliance with all regulatory requirements and internal policies. You will work with a high volume of applications, requiring meticulous attention to detail and strong analytical capabilities. Key Responsibilities

• Review and analyze mortgage loan applications, including credit reports, income verification, and property appraisals.
• Assess borrower risk profiles and ensure compliance with lending guidelines and regulatory standards (e.g., FINRA, FCA).
• Make sound decisions on loan approvals, rejections, or requests for additional documentation.
• Communicate effectively with loan officers, brokers, and applicants to gather necessary information and explain decisions.
• Maintain accurate and up-to-date records of underwriting decisions and supporting documentation.
• Stay informed about changes in lending regulations, market conditions, and underwriting best practices.

Requirements

• Minimum of 3 years of experience as a Mortgage Underwriter.
• Proven track record of making sound lending decisions.
• In-depth knowledge of mortgage lending regulations, guidelines, and risk assessment principles.
• Proficiency with underwriting software and loan origination systems.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with exceptional attention to detail.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, suitable for a remote role.
