About the Role
Our client is seeking a meticulous and experienced Mortgage Underwriter to join their lending operations in Nottingham . This role is responsible for assessing the risk associated with mortgage applications, ensuring compliance with company policies and lending guidelines. You will review applicant financials, property valuations, and credit histories to make informed decisions on loan approvals. This is a critical role in the mortgage process, requiring a strong understanding of credit risk, regulatory requirements, and excellent judgment to protect the lender while serving clients effectively, contributing to the firm's responsible lending practices.
Key Responsibilities
- Evaluate mortgage loan applications, assessing credit risk and adherence to lending policies.
- Analyze financial documentation, including income verification, asset statements, and credit reports.
- Determine loan eligibility and recommend appropriate loan structures and terms.
- Ensure compliance with all relevant mortgage lending regulations and laws.
- Communicate effectively with mortgage brokers, loan officers, and internal teams regarding application status and requirements.
- Review property appraisals and title reports to identify potential risks.
- Make sound decisions on loan approvals, denials, or requests for additional information.
Requirements
- Minimum of 3 years of experience in mortgage underwriting or loan processing.
- Thorough understanding of mortgage lending practices, credit analysis, and risk assessment.
- Knowledge of relevant regulations such as TILA, RESPA, and HMDA.
- Strong analytical and decision-making skills with keen attention to detail.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to manage a high volume of applications efficiently and accurately.
