About the Role
Our client seeks a diligent and experienced Mortgage Underwriter to join their lending team in Nottingham, Nottinghamshire, UK . This role involves evaluating mortgage applications to assess risk and ensure compliance with company policies and regulatory requirements. You will analyze borrower financials, property valuations, and credit histories to make sound lending decisions. This is a critical position for maintaining portfolio quality and supporting the growth of the mortgage business, operating within a flexible hybrid work model.
Key Responsibilities
- Review and analyze mortgage applications, including financial statements, credit reports, and employment verification.
- Assess the risk profile of applicants and properties to determine loan eligibility and terms.
- Ensure all underwriting decisions comply with internal lending policies and regulatory guidelines (e.g., FCA regulations).
- Communicate with loan officers, brokers, and appraisers to gather necessary information and clarify details.
- Approve, deny, or counter-offer mortgage applications based on established underwriting criteria.
- Maintain accurate and thorough documentation for all underwriting decisions.
Requirements
- Proven experience as a Mortgage Underwriter or in a similar role within the mortgage or financial services industry.
- Solid understanding of mortgage lending principles, underwriting guidelines, and relevant regulations.
- Strong analytical skills and attention to detail in reviewing financial documentation.
- Proficiency in mortgage underwriting software and Microsoft Office Suite.
