About the Role

Our client is looking for a detail-oriented and experienced Mortgage Underwriter to join their lending team in Bristol . This role is responsible for evaluating mortgage applications, assessing borrower creditworthiness, and determining the risk associated with lending. You will ensure adherence to company policies and regulatory guidelines, making informed decisions to approve or deny loan applications. This is a key position within the mortgage lending process, contributing to responsible lending practices and the firm's success in the competitive UK mortgage market, operating from our Bristol offices.

Key Responsibilities

• Review and assess mortgage applications, including income, assets, and liabilities.
• Analyze credit reports, property appraisals, and other relevant documentation.
• Determine the risk profile of applicants and ensure compliance with lending policies and regulations.
• Approve or decline mortgage applications based on thorough evaluation and sound judgment.
• Communicate decisions and requirements clearly to loan officers and applicants.

Requirements

• High school diploma or equivalent; Bachelor's degree in Finance or related field preferred.
• Minimum of 3 years of experience as a mortgage underwriter or in a similar lending role within banking and finance .
• Thorough understanding of mortgage lending policies, procedures, and regulatory requirements (e.g., FCA, UK Finance).
• Strong analytical and decision-making skills with a keen eye for detail.
• Proficiency in mortgage origination software and standard office applications, based in Bristol .
