About the Role
Our client is seeking a meticulous and experienced Mortgage Underwriter to join their team in Portsmouth . This hybrid role involves assessing the risk associated with mortgage applications, ensuring compliance with lending policies and regulatory standards. You will analyze borrower creditworthiness, property valuations, and financial documentation to make informed lending decisions. This position is vital for maintaining the quality of the loan portfolio and requires keen attention to detail, strong analytical skills, and the ability to balance risk with business objectives in a structured hybrid work model.
Key Responsibilities
- Review and analyze mortgage loan applications, including credit reports, income verification, and property appraisals.
- Determine loan eligibility and adherence to company lending policies and secondary market guidelines.
- Assess and quantify risk associated with each loan application, making sound approval or denial decisions.
- Communicate loan decisions and conditions clearly to loan officers and brokers.
- Ensure all underwriting activities comply with relevant regulations, such as TILA, RESPA, and HMDA.
- Maintain accurate and organized loan files and documentation.
Requirements
- Proven experience as a Mortgage Underwriter or in a similar lending role.
- Strong understanding of mortgage lending principles, credit analysis, and risk assessment .
- Knowledge of federal and state lending regulations.
- Proficiency in using underwriting software and loan origination systems .
- Excellent analytical and decision-making skills.
- High school diploma or equivalent; a relevant certification is a plus.
