Job Title Maintenance Engineer – Night Shift Location Central Manchester, UK (On-site role) Employment Type Full-Time, Permanent Shift pattern: 6pm-6am, 4 days per week - may include weekend shifts. Salary & Benefits * Base salary: £40,000-£48,000 per annum * Pension: Auto-enrolled with NEST * Holiday Entitlement: 28 days annually (including bank holidays) * Laptop: Provided * Parking: Free onsite parking * Other: Opportunity to work with a long-established local bakery known for its commitment to quality and community Role Summary We’re looking for an experienced, hands-on Maintenance Engineer to support our manufacturing operations in Manchester. You’ll ensure production machinery is maintained, repaired, and running efficiently to minimise downtime across a busy baking and packaging operation.
Key Responsibilities
* Carry out planned preventative maintenance (PPM) on bakery production machinery including mixers, ovens, conveyors, and packaging lines * Rapidly respond to and resolve machinery breakdowns and faults * Diagnose mechanical and electrical issues and apply effective solutions * Maintain detailed records of maintenance work and updates in compliance with food safety standards * Support continuous improvement of equipment reliability and operational efficiency * Ensure all work is completed in line with health, safety and hygiene protocols * Collaborate effectively with production and engineering teams during handovers and day-to-day operations Skills & Experience Essential: * Recognised engineering qualification (NVQ Level 3, BTEC, HNC or equivalent) in Mechanical, Electrical, or Multi-skilled Engineering * Previous experience in a manufacturing or food production environment * Strong fault-finding skills and hands-on ability in mechanical and/or electrical maintenance * Understanding of health, safety and food hygiene standards * Ability to work independently and manage workload effectively during shifts
Desirable
* Experience working with bakery or FMCG production equipment * Familiarity with PLC-controlled machinery and pneumatic/hydraulic systems * Experience with CMMS systems or digital maintenance reporting tools Personal Attributes * Reliable, self-motivated and proactive approach * Strong communication and teamwork skills * Committed to maintaining a safe, clean and high-performing workplace * Willingness to adapt and contribute to a fast-paced production environment
