Online Learning Designer - Higher Education

About the Role

Our client is seeking a creative and experienced Online Learning Designer to contribute to the development of cutting-edge higher education courses. This is a remote, contract-based role perfect for a professional based in or around Edinburgh who is passionate about innovative pedagogical approaches and digital learning environments. You will collaborate with subject matter experts and instructional designers to transform traditional course content into engaging, interactive, and effective online learning experiences. Your expertise will be crucial in designing courses that meet the needs of today's learners and uphold the academic standards of our client.

Key Responsibilities

• Design and develop engaging online course content, incorporating multimedia, interactive elements, and assessments.
• Collaborate with subject matter experts to translate complex academic material into accessible online modules.
• Apply learning theories and instructional design principles to create effective and learner-centered experiences.
• Utilize learning management systems (LMS) and authoring tools to build and deliver online courses.
• Ensure all developed content meets accessibility standards (e.g., WCAG) and quality benchmarks.
• Participate in review cycles, providing and incorporating feedback to refine course design.

Requirements

• Proven experience in instructional design, curriculum development, or online learning design.
• A strong understanding of adult learning principles and pedagogical best practices for online environments.
• Proficiency with e-learning authoring tools (e.g., Articulate Storyline, Adobe Captivate) and LMS platforms.
• Excellent project management and organisational skills, with the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously.
• Strong communication and collaboration skills, essential for remote teamwork.
• Experience in higher education is highly desirable.
